Paraparaumu School

PRINCIPAL’S Corner

Dear families and friends of our school

Teacher Only Day Term 2:

On Monday 24th April school will be closed for a teacher only day. At present the New Zealand Curriculum is being refreshed and updated, the first time since 2007. The Ministry of Education has allocated this teacher only day for teachers to start looking at how this will impact education and what we do here for teaching and learning. Can you please make alternative arrangements for your child on this day. Your co-operation is most appreciated.

Mathletics, Reading Eggs & Reading Express:

I do encourage you all to sign your child up for these web-based programs at $26 for a whole years access. It really does make homework exciting and helps reinforce what is being taught in class.

Nga mihi nui ki a koutou – warm regards to you all.

Student of the Week

Micah Grace          Room2           Year3

Micah Grace is a student who shows manaakitanga to all every day. She has been so welcoming to our new entrants this year, helping them when she recognises there uncertainty in the classroom and around the school grounds. Micah’s learning approach is infectious, she leads her own learning and is always up for a challenge taking on the role as the Room 2 student representative.

He rawe tō mahi ia rā ia rā, he hautū pai mō tō tātou akomanga me tō tātou kura hoki.

Our annual Easter Bonnet Parade

On Monday 3rd of April we will be holding our annual Easter Bonner Parade!

Whanau and caregivers are welcome to attend. The parade will begin just after 1:30pm and includes an adults section and a preschool section. Children are encouraged to make their Easter Bonnet at home, although there will be opportunities to make bonnets in class too. There are prizes up for grabs for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each class and each category.

Unfortunately, if the weather isn’t suitable on the day we will need to cancel the parade and judging will take place in each classroom– please keep an eye on the school facebook page, just in case.

We look forward to seeing you there!

My Trip To Paradise

As I was sitting there with the sand between my toes I knew I was headed to paradise!
The golden rays of the soon-coming sunset reflected off the tree branches and into the clear blue sea right ahead of me.
I can see the two little tugboats, the bright sky and a little black dog. I watched all the birds fly into their homes for the nighttime. The peaceful smell of Lily and Jasmine filled my nose in delight.
All of a sudden, I hear a booming sound of a cruise ship heading my way, the excitement bubbled inside me as I hear the captain say (Ahoy and welcome aboard the Cozy Cruse!)
As I entered the ship I was outstanding by the interior and I was directed to my cabin. I went out on my balcony where the sea was calm and still awaiting the dispatcher to the place I call Paradise!
